The sequence of severe cold continued on 13 January also. The day started with dense fog and the fog continued till evening. A little sunlight came amidst the cold winds, but it was not bright. Due to which people could not get relief from cold. The cold wave has freed people from shivering. The mercury has also been falling for the last several days. The maximum temperature of the day was 12.8, which was five degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature was 4.8 which was two degrees Celsius below normal.
Due to fog, trains and buses are arriving much behind their scheduled time. According to meteorologist Dr. Ashraf, the effect of fog and cold will be more for the next two days. On January 13, Kaifiyat Express was delayed by 14 hours, Rewa Express by 13 hours, Magadha Express by nine hours, Mau-Anand Bihar Express by 10 hours, Gomti Express by six hours, Swatantrata Senani Express by five hours, Purva by three and a half hours.
An elderly woman who was crossing the railway track on January 13 morning on platform number six of Aligarh railway station was hit by a goods train and died. The woman had left home with her son to go to Delhi. RPF Post Commander Rajiv Verma said that the woman died after being hit by a goods train going towards Harduaganj. The woman was crossing the railway line from platform number six.
Sukhpal Singh, the points man on duty, gave this information to the station master, RPF and GRP police station. Meanwhile, the woman’s body was removed from the railway track. Then Aas Muhammad, resident of Thakur Wali Gali, Bhujpura, Kotwali Nagar told that the woman is his 65 year old mother Jamila wife Riyazuddin. He had left home to go to Delhi. While going towards platform number seven, the mother could not see the goods train in the dense fog and died after being hit by the goods train. GRP conducted post-mortem of the body and handed it over to the family members.
